The USB 3.2 Gen 1 RAID TR-004 expansion enclosure allows you to extend the capacity of your PC and QNAP NAS. The TR-004 can also be used as a DAS (Direct-Attached Storage) device, allowing you to directly access its content by simply connecting it via USB. The TR-004 features four 3.5-inch SATA drive bays with multiple RAID configuration options and USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-C connectivity. It thus provides a high-reliability and high-security storage capacity expansion solution.

The TR-004 is an ideal storage expansion solution for PCs, especially for laptops that do not have the capacity to install larger and higher-capacity drives. With four 3.5-inch SATA drive bays and RAID configuration support, the TR-004 offers the ability to store a large number of files and data while ensuring protection against potential drive failures.

Supports different RAID levels
The TR-004 supports various RAID configurations. Depending on your needs, you can switch between Hardware RAID or Software RAID modes. Move the DIP switches to the corresponding positions for your ideal RAID mode: Individual, JBOD, RAID 0, RAID 1/10, or RAID 5. You can also configure the RAID settings from your QNAP NAS or using the QNAP External RAID Manager utility on your computer.

Flexible storage configuration and management
Compared to other RAID enclosures, the TR-004 offers software-controlled configurations for greater flexibility in management. Users can configure RAID and monitor drive health using the Storage Manager and snapshots on a QNAP NAS, or using the QNAP External RAID Manager utility on their computer.

Scenario 1: Increase your NAS capacity
The TR-004 provides users with an alternative method to increase their NAS storage capacity. By connecting the TR-004 to their NAS and using the Storage Manager and snapshots, users can easily configure and manage their storage expansion. The TR-004 supports various storage and file management functions of the QNAP NAS, allowing users to create storage pools, search for files with Qsirch, and organize files with Qfiling.

Use the TR-004 as an alternative to traditional NAS expansion enclosures
As an external hardware RAID device, the TR-004 operates independently and does not require additional system resources from the NAS. Compared to the UX-500P expansion enclosure, the TR-004 uses fewer system resources from the NAS.

Scenario 2: External storage for your NAS
Instead of using the TR-004 to increase the capacity of your QNAP NAS, you can use it as a complementary storage unit for backup or data transfer. It also allows you to physically migrate huge amounts of data requiring significant network bandwidth. When connected to the NAS, you can monitor the health and status of the TR-004 using the Storage Manager and snapshots on the NAS.

Scenario 3: Increase your computer's storage space
The TR-004 can quickly add storage space to your computer. You can use the DIP switch to configure a hardware RAID mode or manage it using the QNAP External RAID Manager utility. The health and status of the TR-004 can also be monitored using the QNAP External RAID Manager utility.

Scenario 4: Cross-platform file sharing
From your NAS to Windows, Mac, and Linux computers, the TR-004 is compatible with a wide range of devices. This makes it ideal for quickly moving large files between different devices. The TR-004 is even compatible with devices that use the exFAT file system*, making it even more convenient to access and share files from a large number of devices.
* To access devices that use the exFAT file system, users must purchase a separate exFAT driver license.
