Synology offers you the flexibility to start with a smaller storage capacity and expand it as your business grows. The RX1217 and RX1217RP are 12-bay storage units designed to provide certain Synology RackStations with seamless capacity expansion.

Volume Expansion and Backup

When disk capacity becomes insufficient on a Synology DiskStation, the Synology RX1217/RX1217RP provides an easy way to immediately expand storage by providing 12 additional slots. The RAID volume of the Synology RackStation can be expanded directly without having to reformat the hard drives, allowing operations to continue during capacity expansion. To ensure 24/7 operation, the Synology RX1217RP is equipped with redundant power supplies, enabling automatic recovery support if one of the PSUs fails.

When created as a separate volume, the Synology RX1217/RX1217RP also serves as an additional local backup destination for Synology RackStations.

Reliable Plug-and-Play Design

The Synology RX1217/RX1217RP securely connects to Synology RackStation servers using a high-bandwidth expansion cable, ensuring maximum data throughput and smooth operation — as if they were part of the internal drives of the Synology RackStation. The SATA 6 Gb/s interface ensures that installed drives deliver exceptional high-quality data processing performance.

Eco-Friendly and Easy to Use

The hibernation mode can be manually configured to automatically start when the system has been idle for a certain period. This not only saves energy but also extends the lifespan of the hard drives. The RX1217/RX1217RP can also intelligently power on and off with the connected RackStation; no user intervention is needed to operate this system smartly and efficiently.
