Product Description

Convert and extend a Gigabit Ethernet connection up to 20 km using a single-mode LC fiber optic cable

This Gigabit Ethernet to fiber optic media converter is a cost-effective way to extend your network or to increase the distance between two devices up to 20 km.

Fiber optic network connections cover greater distances and offer enhanced security with less electromagnetic interference than standard RJ45 copper networks, making it ideal for IT professionals and secure installations for government, commercial, or educational applications.

Flexible integration in mixed network environments

This versatile copper to fiber optic converter supports standalone operations or can be installed in the rack-mounted chassis from StarTech.com (ETCHS2U - sold separately), giving you more integration options within your existing network. The card module can also be reinserted into the ET91000SM20 housing; furthermore, it is compatible with the housings of other StarTech.com ET91000 series media converters (sold separately)

This converter comes equipped with a pre-installed Gigabit SFP transceiver with LC connectors. If your network infrastructure needs to be modified in the future, you can easily swap and replace the module to adapt the media converter to the requirements of your new network.

With flexible integration and connectivity up to a distance of 20 km, you can provide network access to remote sites in other buildings or in areas where Wi-Fi® is unreliable or unavailable.

Sturdy and reliable

This robust fiber optic media converter is designed for maximum reliability. It features a metal (steel) housing and can withstand the stress of demanding environments, such as factories or warehouses.

Moreover, by relying on this more durable fiber optic media converter, you can reduce the strain on your existing copper network equipment and potentially extend the life of your devices, helping to avoid future expenses.

Easily diagnose and troubleshoot issues

This high-performance media converter supports a wide range of installation and diagnostic protocols (e.g., Link Fault Passthrough, Auto Laser Shutdown (ALS), and Auto MDIX), allowing you to easily configure and troubleshoot your network.

Prepare your network for the future

If your network consists of RJ45 copper devices and cables, it will be difficult to upgrade in the coming years. The latest fiber optic network switches often feature more SFP ports than RJ45 ports. Therefore, you will need a converter to bridge your copper and fiber optic networks.
